Shared Focus is a collaborative project between two friends who, although they've never met in person, have come to know each other through their online connection and have each found a kindred spirit in the other. Since 1996 they've celebrated each others triumphs, given support through life's inevitable challenges and encouraged each other to believe in possibilities.
A common love of photography has led them to join in this bi-weekly collaboration of interpreting words and phrases with a photograph, and alternating the challenge between them. They live in two different countries which, although similar in many ways, are also very distinct. Martie lives in the US, and is surrounded by the hot, dry California desert while Kate lives on an island on Canada's west coast and is surrounded by the ocean. Kate is retired with firmly embedded roots on her island while Martie's wanderlust has led her to live in six countries on four continents.
Although their photographic styles may differ, they share a delight in capturing the essence and wonder of life through their lenses. They also share a common desire to visually communicate from the heart and even more importantly...they share a passion to untether the heart and let it soar.

So Many Roads (blog)
Martie is a modern day wanderer/gypsy. While she loves her family dearly, she can't seem to settle down and grow roots anywhere. She's happiest near the ocean, so she has come out of retirement in order to work a few years before purchasing her dream home near the ocean. Photography has become Martie's latest teacher, helping her to see beauty in all things and to notice small details.
When not immersed in a creative project, Kate can often be found enjoying a cup of chai tea, walking local trails with her Sheltie Molly, searching the shore for beach glass, contemplating life’s mysteries and sharing laughter with friends. When the west coast winter rains begin and her feet become soggy, she and her husband escape to a warm and tropical climate until the daffodils of home are blooming once again.
Kate is awed by the beauty of life and immensely grateful for the love and grace of all that surrounds her. It is her heartfelt desire to express this through all of her creative endeavors.
