I’ve been away for a week and then home for a week but have been feeling a bit under the weather and generally listless. I kind of like the word listless. It sounds exactly like I’ve felt. (I just looked it up and it’s derived from the middle English word “list” which meant “desire”….so it’s feeling desireless) I fought it for a few days but have since decided to just go with it and let it run it’s course. I’ve got a few jobs (like finishing a blurb book) that don’t require energy or inspiration…perfect!
We have so much fennel growing in our garden right now…just two plants, but they’ve grown almost 8 ft. tall! We won’t be harvesting them to use in a culinary sense but they’re very pretty…quite light and feathery looking. As it goes to seed this fall, I know the birds will enjoy it.
I hope this last long weekend of the summer (here in North America) is a perfect ending to the season. On the west coast we’re having some of the nicest weather we’ve had throughout the summer! I love sunny Septembers!
I have seen slower people than I am and more deliberate…and even quieter and more listless and lazier people than I am. But they were dead.
Mark Twain
...back soon with more "list"!
Dear kate, I wish you a time of listlessness that is felt fully and then cycled out of as soon as you are ready. What a great way to accept and be with life! I so fight listlessness and other difficult feelings. Futility and disquiet result. I appreciate your post and take inspiration from it. I so like your palettes.
Do you use some fancy graphic design program to do that (like Adobe)? I would love to be able to do this! much love, xoO

Ooh I love fennel! Baked with a roast dinner!
I hope you are feeling more energised soon Kate, that feeling of listlessness is allowing you to rest and recouperate. Take your time!

I LOVE fennel and it is very beautiful! Kate the pattern for that hat is Lady's Entrelac Hat on Ravelry. If you are not a member, I would highly recommend joining. It is free and a GREAT resource for kniting or crocheting. You can look up all KINDS of patterns! Or, if you would like I can e-mail you one of the patterns (it was a free download). Just let me know!
A fun project would make the listlessness enjoyable. ;) blessings ~ tanna

I love the air-i-ness of fennel as well. It's such a wonderful plant - bending with the wind and springing back. I need to learn to bend as easily! Hope the listless-ness passes soon, but trust you to put a smile on and go with it! Perhaps you are one with fennel!

They are so beautiful, aren't they? Those fennel plants? So soft in colour and texture. But I don't know if I would like the taste...it is kind of like black licorice. right?

Kate,
I find myself FULL of creative energy when we have warm fall days and the sudden cool weather made me want to just stay in bed. Luckily we have more warm days...more bike riding...fending off that ennui!
I adore your color swatch 'paintings'!
