Another digital creation inspired by Day 40’s prompt of Patti Digh’s Project 137
Draw a map of your head and your heart today. In whatever form you'd like.
What's in there?
Who's in there?
I’ve spent years learning to “master” my mind but it’s only been in the past two that I’ve felt I’ve begun to understand why it always seemed to master me and how to turn that around. Worry, anxiety, obsessive thinking…things we all do to some extent, can begin to take over and run the show when we hit a bump in the road of life.
The survival instinct’s job is to keep us alive. Most of us no longer have to worry about the sabre tooth tiger devouring us but we still need to be aware if we’re stepping into the path of an oncoming bus. It has a job to do but when it begins to take over and convince us we need to control every aspect of our life and environment, it's to our advantage to learn how to calm it down.
Accessing that calm center allows my heart to speak to me in ways that I can “hear”…with Insight, inspiration, joy, and love.
At the moment, my father is in the final stage of his physical life and although there have been moments of deep grief and physical weariness, I’m realizing that for the most part, my heart is finally running the show. That’s not to say that I’m never tempted to travel the freeway of anxiety or obsessive thinking but hallelujah!…I now quickly recognize when I’m on that road and can reroute myself back to my centered space, lickety split.
What a relief it is to be able to navigate the map to new territory!
Many blessings to everyone and thank you for visiting. It's lovely to know that so many of us will be looking up into the sky tonight and marveling at the same beautiful, full harvest moon. It's one amazing thing that we all share together.
I love your Mind-Heart Map, Kate! Yes, so true, it does benefit us to calm our minds down as it can have a way of running rampant with our fears and insecurities. I've been thinking of you lately and I keep sending thoughts and prayers your way. May your Father's final stage in the physical be filled with love, peace, and compassion. xo

I am wishing you well at this time also, kate. I take inspiration (as per usual) from your insights in this post. I am just back from a quick and intense trip for a wedding to the Midwest and heading off to LA for a week for my FasterEFT certification--noticing I'm coming down with something as well--so turning my crazy-making mind off and allowing myself to be present and accepting what shows up. I will be thinking of you at this time of being with your father, xoO

Kate - So good to catch up with you. Now that I'm near my folks I am seeing how fragile they have become. I am glad I am here for them. I hope that your Father's final journey in this life is pain free and peaceful. I know it will be filled with love.
Your post has me thinking about letting my brain control too much of my life. Thank you. Take care and I'm sending you lots of strength, dear friend.

Yes Kate I agree with you, we really need calmness in our lives for us not to easily go wrong. In times of trouble, this simple virtue should at the center of our hearts in order for us to think well and come up with a good decision. I love your idea in mind mapping. Keep it up!

It is never easy to access our calm center but once we have successfully reach that part of ourselves, everything will just follow through.

When faced with problems in life, do not just choose with your heart alone. You have to use your mind as well. You cannot be emotional yet being too logical is never commendable.
